Entrepreneurs often go into business to avoid the doldrums of Cubicle Land.
But then they find themselves skipping showers, piling papers on their dining room tables and feeling isolated. They miss the office — and the copiers and water coolers and secretaries that come standard.
Entrepreneur Josh Bereano, 38, said he rolls out of bed each morning in his Hawthorne Hills neighborhood to check his e-mail. He feels cut off from the work force sometimes.
“People don’t look down at home offices anymore, it’s natural,” said Bereano, who owns the video Internet marketing company Direct Marketing Inc. But still, it’s good to “just get out of the house and spice up the workday.”
My Day Office, a new Belltown business, hopes to cater to folks like Bereano — mobile workers who don’t need, or can’t yet afford, a long office lease. It will offer a la carte office space and services.

Irritated by the highest gas prices in U.S. history, John Thorner has a message for his 70 employees: Stay home.
Rising gas prices have topped the $4 per gallon mark in some U.S. cities.
Thorner is requiring all staff at the National Recreation and Park Association to avoid commuting at least one day a week — either by working four long days and taking the fifth one off, or by working from home on the fifth day.
“The 70 people in our office drive an average of 30 miles a day. We did the math and figured that by having the employees not commute one day a week, we would be saving 100 gallons a week,” says Thorner, executive director of the nonprofit, which is based in the suburbs of Washington.
“This is not a huge amount of gasoline, but it could serve as a model for other operations.”
When the average price of gasoline in the United States hit $3.18 in May, it was the highest price ever recorded, even when adjusted for inflation, according to the Lundberg Survey of thousands of service stations across the nation…..Full Article

There is not a better time than now to start your work at home career. High gas prices and the long commute are incentive enough to find a legitimate work at home business. Then there are the other obvious reasons like spending more time with family, working when and where you want, not having to answer to unreasonable bosses, and of course making more money. I think a majority of the population would favor working at home over a traditional job. Then why don’t more people work from home? It’s probably due the fear of failing on your own. Plus, it takes a lot of self motivation and hard work to succeed with your own business.
There are two types of work at home situations. One is when you are lucky enough to have a job that allows you to perform daily tasks from your own home. These are rare and you still have to answer to the boss. The second and more favorable work at home situation is owning a home based business. A home based business can range from walking dogs to starting a web design business to my favorite- running an online network marketing business. If you have been online looking at your options to work at home, you have probably come across several sites, forums, and online bulletin boards where you can meet and talk with other women all over the world! When you work at home by yourself, this is a lifeline to learning and friendship. Networking online with other moms on message boards is very easy! Find a forum that you like, register an account and post an introduction message right away. Let the other moms know where you are from and what you want to accomplish while working at home.
Everyone’s got different things they bring to the discussion. You’ll meet women who can provide you with advice on how to start a business, information on a wide variety of subjects, favorite resources, and they will be more than happy to lend an ear when you need to complain about a bad day. Most of these sites have somewhere that you can list your business and tell a little about what you do. Visit the different Web sites – eventually you will find a few work-at-home moms that have businesses similar to the type you would like to start.
Most people would be glad to answer your questions – we all like to talk about what we enjoy and do! Keep reading and replying to posts regularly; you will find that people have questions about things you are an ‘expert’ in. By building relationships and establishing credibility, people will come to you when they have a need for the product or service you provide. Develop a little sign-off for your own posts, called a “sig file,” which gives a summary of what benefits or services you offer. Include your Web site URL if you have one so readers can find out more. This is a great benefit of networking online. Seek out the services of other home-based moms when you need help with something….Full Article Here

Here is an article excerpt from a brand new resource from Entrepreneur.com that focuses on work at home women and women entrepreneurs:
Fear is a motivating factor in our lives. In some ways it’s healthy–it prevents us from driving too fast or stepping too close to the edge of a cliff. In other ways, though, it can inhibit us from doing things that’ll benefit us.
Many women who consider starting a business encounter unexpected mental roadblocks that prevent them from moving forward. Here are some of the most common fears experienced by women who want to launch their own businesses–and how you can overcome them.
Fear of Financial Consequences
This fear is natural and completely rational. After all, if you’re investing time and money in a business, you assume some level of risk. There’s the fear of losing money invested, the fear of losing collateral, such as a home, and the fear of being unemployed if the business fails.
How can you deal with these fears? Arm yourself with knowledge. If you don’t understand the financial aspects of your business–how to read a balance sheet, how to forecast and how to price–fears can mount. While it may not be practical to go back to business school, mentors can help. Try contacting your local SCORE chapter, which provides counselors to small businesses. The National Association of Women Business Owners also offers resources. And don’t forget to ask for help from your accountant and read as many business books and magazines as you can….Full Article Here.

From Entrepreneur.com:
I’ve been told that when it comes to reaching their goals, male entrepreneurs tend to create a course of action and figure it out on their own, whereas women entrepreneurs will seek out support and resources to accomplish their goal. That has definitely been the case for my own journey. Why should I re-invent the wheel if I don’t have to? I’m continuously amazed at the number of valuable resources that are available to entrepreneurs and at how many are perfect for wor at home moms specifically. So in this article, I want to share a few of my favorites.

Let’s face it: The web is the tool of choice for most entrepreneurs. It’s quick, to the point and can help you track down information on just about any topic you need. For Mother’s day this year, Two WAHMS have teamed up to sponsor a “Mama Said There’d be Days like This” essay writing contest. Baby boomer author Beverly Mahone of North Carolina and Internet Radio Host Rebecca White of Ohio decided to join forces after recognizing they were doing the same thing individually. Mahone says, “When Rebecca announced she was hosting a Mother’s Day contest on one of the sites where we network together, I contacted her and suggested we join forces. It just made sense for us to pool our resources together and broaden our base.” And broaden their base they did. When the two combined their prize list, they ended up with over $1000, which will be distributed among the five finalists. They were even able to enlist the services of two-time super bowl champion Dwight Hicks (San Francisco 49ers), who will judge the essays.
In 800 words or less, participants are asked to write about a warning their mother gave them when they were younger but they failed to listen to the advice. Later on, however, they discovered their mother had been right all along….Read More.

Many people think a work at ome multilevel marketing (MLM) business is set up to run on its own and generate a residual income. The fact is that it takes some work to make that MLM start building a residual income. Nobody gets rich overnight working from home. It takes more than signing up to get started and get going. Combine that with the fact that most MLM’s run solely online and many people give up before they even get started because they do not understand how to make it work. There are a few keys a person needs to know to make residual income working from home.
Making a good choice of the online home based business is the first step to MLM success. A person has to choose something they are interested in and something they think they can get others interested in. If a person seriously believes in a product then they should have no problems telling others about it and telling them why they must buy it. It makes it much easier to start with a product and company that a person can stand behind then having to start by convincing themselves that it is worthwhile. It is a waste of time trying to build up belief in something when there are plenty of opportunities from which to choose. A person should look around until find the one that suits them.
Getting marketing help is part of what an MLM is about and a key to success in an online home based MLM business. An online home based MLM business is supposed to be a team effort. A person needs to understand that they should go to those higher up in the company and get help to build a good marketing campaign. Those who are already successful with the company have some amazing things to share. They make pass on tricks and tips for creating a profitable marketing campaign. There is no reason to at it alone when help is so openly available…..Full Article Here.

From Entrepreneur.com:
Most of the best businesses and products for moms come from moms themselves. Your experience as a mom should help you identify with your customers, but realize not all moms are the same. How you market to them may be as important as the product or service you offer.
For business owners, the $1.6 trillion “Mommy Market” is well worth pursuing. In the book Trillion Dollar Moms, Maria Bailey and Bonnie Ulman teach you how to take advantage of this lucrative market. They describe three generations of moms: baby boomer moms, Gen X moms and Millennial new moms. If your company is still marketing to soccer moms, you’re missing two-thirds of the mom market.
Their book examines how recent generational shifts have impacted the buying behaviors of today’s mothers and moms-to-be. Moms today want high quality and are proud to admit when they get a good price. That’s part of why you’re seeing more designer items at stores like Target and K-Mart. Most moms surveyed by Bailey and Ulman say they feel advertising is not geared toward them and many feel that advertising is offensive…..

From WorkfromHomeMomma.com:
Perfect for stay at home moms? Don’t you believe it! If you find a position
advertised as “perfect for stay at home moms” it’s a sure bet someone is looking to get something for almost nothing. This is a bone of contention for me. Because we’re stay at homes, does that mean we have unlimited time? Does it mean we’re just sitting around waiting for someone, anyone, to pay .50 cents per hour for email referrals or $2.00 a pop writing silly SEO content? We have the most important job in the world, we shouldn’t have to settle.
At least those jobs pay though. Sometimes I come across ads for “perfect” jobs that don’t pay anything at all. Is this because Work from home moms don’t have anything better to do than work for free for some cheapskate? Come on people, can’t you even pretend to show us a little respect?
Here’s a case in point, a couple of weeks ago I was trolling the job boards and came across an ad on Craigslist for a job that was, you guessed it, “perfect for moms.” The website was looking for writers. Payment? A dozen home baked cookies and some stickers. This is just wrong on so many levels. Since when do cookies constitute payment? Is this the impression we give? Women who sit around and eat cookies all day?….

I am always advised by some of my friends and relatives that I’d better to find a job and spend some time out of home. I really don’t know why they advise me to do that while they are not happy with their jobs, getting up early morning everyday, taking the kids to daycare or leaving them with the babysitter and … The worst part of their life is the money they make with their full time jobs. The luckiest one can have 10 bucks per hour after paying tax. They also have to pay for gas and other expenses that their cars have every month.
So what advantages does working out of home have for them? Why do they encourage me to do something that they are not happy with it? The advice I always give them is much better. I advise them to stay at home and let their kids grow under their nose. They don’t know how pleasant it is when you see your baby takes his first step or says his first word. Most of them are used to hearing the news from their babysitters.
You may be a mom or dad with the same issues and problems with your full time job. I don’t want to ask you to quit your full time job right away, stay at home and think about working from home. I always try to teach people on my weblog and articles to be broad-minded and not to make any limitation for themselves. They can use their extra time they will have when their kids are slept or at the weekend to find some extra streams of income. Even if you don’t need to make any more money and you are happy with your current income but sooner or later you will need some more money. Your children will grow up and there will be many new things that you will have to provide for them. So it does worth if you spend some of the time you are used to spend to take nap or watching TV on finding good ways to create some new streams of income.
But how to get started?

In the past a person would have found it hard to work at home. In present day working and earn money from home is more common than ever.
When most people decide to work at home, they have visions of how easy and convenient it is going to be, rolling out of bed and rolling up to the computer in your home clothes, or being able to work and still never missing any of their favorite soap operas and talk shows during the day. Unfortunately, there is a lot more to contend with after making the decision to work at home than no more suits and no more commuting.
To work at home successfully and kickstart your business, a person needs a great deal of personal motivation and self discipline. After all, there is no train you are going to miss and no boss you are going to tick off by showing up late if you can’t get yourself out of bed by eight in the morning. Instead, people who work at home have to be their own boss and monitor their own schedule in this regard, which can be difficult if you’re used to being motivated by the strict schedule imposed by your office environment.
On the other hand, for many individuals who don’t necessarily function optimally during “normal” working hours and who prefer a more alternative approach, the work at home option can be a blessing because it allows them to work at home when it is convenient for them. In many cases, this arrangement will make someone more productive, not less. Having a flexible working schedule is a home business advantage but it can also lead to failure if not managed properly…..

Coastal Vacations trainer Dean Marino has identified the top ten items new home based business owners demand from a new business venture. The Los Angeles based Level 3 Coastal Vacations Director coordinates training and hosts live conference calls for the largest, fastest growing and most successful group in the 12-year-old top rated Coastal Vacations program.
(1) New home based business owners need to see the ability to earn a substantial immediate income. Marino explained that MLM business plans that pay out profits of $20, $50, or $100 per sale are not going to cut it for the serious business builder. The top Coastal Vacations group pays out average commissions of $3000 per sale and with their ultra- successful business model, members of Coastal’s top group can earn full commissions on their very first sale.
(2) New home based business owners don’t want to put up large cash capital to start a new business. The California based Coastal Vacations Director was happy to report that getting started with the most successful Coastal Vacations business model is thousands of dollars less that most franchises. Cash is actually not required as many join Coastal vacations’ top group with a credit card……

From Allbusiness.com:
Being able to spend more time with family is a popular incentive for people looking to work from home, and it is also a reason that many home-based businesses fail. You need to be able to perform a delicate balancing act to ensure that you will have time for your family while concurrently running
Just as you would schedule an appointment with a client, it’s essential to set aside time for your family. When you work in an office you are, in essence, already doing this. You “schedule” in your family for the waking hours of the day that you are not at work. The same holds true when your business is run from home.
It is important to stick to a schedule when you are working from home. This is much easier during the school year, but it can become almost impossible during vacations. When your family sees you at home, they naturally assume you are at their beck and call……

From Allbusiness.com:
Yes, you’re eager to put the commute and the office politics behind you and finally bring your brilliant idea to fruition. It sounds like a dream come true, but home-based business ownership is not for everyone. Before you leave the workaday world and its steady paycheck, you need to determine if you have what it takes to make it as a home-based entrepreneur.
Here are 10 characteristics of successful home-based business owners that will help you to determine if you have the right personality traits, experiences, and values to make a go of it — before you invest your valuable time, energy, and financial resources.
1. Confidence. Home-based business owners need confidence to pull through tough times. You have to be positive, focused, dedicated, and you must truly believe that your venture will be successful.
2. Entrepreneurial spirit. Most entrepreneurs discover their affinity for making money at an early age — launching a babysitting empire at age 12, selling lemonade, delivering newspapers, or working after-school jobs. If you have what it takes to run a successful home-based business, you know that the harder you work, the more likely you are to succeed.

Affiliate marketing is a good opportunity for a home based business for women. With a little bit of time and effort women are staying at home and running their own home based business.
Like hundreds of thousands of stay-at-home moms, you too can make money from the comfort and safety of your own home, all while your toddler sleeps, while you do laundry, even while on vacation with your family.
Never in history has it been easier for women to make money online. And never before have busy moms had such a viable, legitimate opportunity to start their very own business and achieve the financial freedom they previously only dreamed about.
Working out of the home often means juggling multiple tasks and wearing many hats. But look out. When there is so much to do that there is little time left over for sales and marketing activity, sales can dry up and often do. Here are some ways to avoid that:

From CourierPostOnline:
If you think everybody who works from home wears PJ’s and sneaks in housework, Jeff Korona and Cynthia Kidder are here to prove you wrong. These home-based workers make it a point to look and act professional — even though there’s no one around to judge.
It takes some discipline, but Korona and Kidder say it’s doable if you follow a few rules:
Dress for work. There’s no time to be a slob. Take a shower and look like you’re going somewhere.
“I rarely wear blue jeans to work in my house,” said Kidder, 51, founder of the nonprofit Band of Angels, which advocates for people with Down syndrome. “There’s something about being in jeans and a T-shirt that makes it too easy to throw in a load of laundry.”
Set a routine and stick to it. Just like in the office, there should be a certain time of day when things get done.
“Every morning, I clear my e-mail,” said Korona, 46, president of re.Source Partners, a computer hardware asset management company. “I contact my partner with a morning call and then contact clients who need attention. I stick with the same routines as if I were in the office.”

The important role women play at home cannot be overemphasized. They organize the home front in such a way as to ensure that things run smoothly.
They perform the under listed functions at home:
(1) Take care of the babies
(2) Ensure that meals are provided as and when due
(3) Ensure that the house is well swept and kept clean
(4) Hubby’s, children’s and their own clothes are washed and ironed
(5) Go drop and pick the kids at school
and a host of other important tasks.
Now where a mother is working at an office, getting these tasks done could be a Herculean one and would require proper planning. Employing others to take care of these tasks would again require an expense that one may not be happy to undertake. Even where this is possible, a mother would still have to come back from a hectic day at the office to resolve domestic issues that are outstanding.
Up till now we have not mentioned the difficulties she has to pass through at the office: a superior who wants to take advantage of her, office politics where she will certainly not rise above a certain corporate level, criticisms and threats of sack when she decides to have kids in quick succession, etc, etc.
I sincerely salute the courage of women who are able to rise above the simultaneous challenges of a career and motherhood. Unfortunately many of them are forced to lead lives they would otherwise not want to, for the sake of paid employment, like taking a decision not to have kids. There are those however, who cannot stand the pressures and are forced to quit to full time stay at home to take care of that front.

Rana Burr is no ordinary mom. When her son, Montana was diagnosed with autism at the age of 6, she decided to take matters into her own hands.
“I didn’t want to settle for the services that insurance covered or that the school district provided,” she says. “I am trained in music therapy and I know the limitations of all of those modalities. I wanted to do whatever was going to be the most effective and all-encompassing, but I wasn’t sure what that would even look like.” That was until she found Relationship Development Intervention (RDI). The problem was, it was so new that she would have to find her own way to pay for it.
“My husband was in medical school when my son was diagnosed. We were basically living off of student loans and the Montgomery GI Bill. We did not have a lot left over for a cutting edge remediation program like RDI.”
So she turned to the only home-based business opportunity she had ever seen that would pay her well for her efforts: Team National–a company that markets a benefits package designed to save individuals and businesses money on a wide variety of products and services.
“You would think that it would have been obvious that I would use my networking business to pay for my son’s RDI program. But up until that time, I wasn’t making very much with it yet. Most of the people I talked to about my business were in the same situation that I was–no money. How were they going to buy a benefits package? I had to go to work to expand my circle. And now I had a big reason to succeed.”
Fueled by the desire to remediate her son, she began talking to people who were already in business for themselves. “Business owners already have the knowledge to see a good investment. I just presented the Team National benefits package in a light that made sense to them. Once I could get them to see how much money they could add to their bottom line, buying the premium package was pretty much a no-brainer for them.”
