Work or Stay at Home Dilemma
Monday, February 19th, 2007News from NWAOnline.com:
Since the early 1970s, parents have agonized over the question: Do I stay home and parent my children, or do I provide a second income and put them in the care of someone else (day care, relative, nanny, etc.)? As you can imagine, there are many variables to consider. Financial planners are quick to point out that a second income of $30,000 or less might result in a minimum net income — perhaps as low as 30 percent, after factoring in taxes, day care, commuting expenses, work clothes and other work-related items. In addition, the second income could bump a couple up to the next-higher tax bracket.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 5.8 million “stay-at-home” parents: 5.6 million moms and 143,000 dads. Although these numbers seem impressive, the majority of parents work. Sixty percent of children under the age of 6 have parents who both work.
For many parents, there is little or no choice about being a two-paycheck family. They must work just to survive. Other parents have the luxury of a choice, but it usually involves a sacrifice of one thing for another. A comment made to me more than a decade ago by a stay-at-home mom made my wife and me reflect on our own choices. She said, “We have few possessions compared to our neighbors, but we are able to give our children the nurturing that they need.”
Thanks to the parents who e-mailed or left a voice mail of their favorite parenting tip this week.
Get A Job Or Stay At Home
Before I made the decision of whether to continue being a stay-at-home mom or to get a job, I did some serious thinking. First, I made a detailed list of pros and cons for each option. I also calculated what a particular job would pay, and then deducted the cost of child care, a work wardrobe, transportation, taxes and other work-related expenses. Working these issues out on paper helped me to make the right choice. — S.S.W., Seattle

Actually, this is not a job at all, but a work at home freelance opportunity. There are many Type at Home Job listings that claim you can make a lot of money typing at home. Beware! These are not jobs at all. If you are looking for a salary or hourly pay, stay away from these adverts. However, if you are looking for a real home business opportunity then you can make a lot of money typing at home.
