Internet Marketing from Presidential Campaigns

Monday, April 9th, 2007

From Entrepreneur.com:

This time around, many candidates are taking their campaigns online in new ways. Find out how you can use their tactics to build brand loyalty and convert community interest into sales.

Ten years ago, it would’ve been hard to imagine candidates actively campaigning for a presidential election two years away. It would’ve been even harder to imagine that some of the well-financed, prominent candidates would announce their candidacy online or promote it on sites like YouTube.

Social networks officially have become mainstream, allowing politicos and businesses alike to endear prospects to their brand and services. Entrepreneurs can learn many lessons from the initiatives the current presidential campaigns will implement leading up to November 2008. While new trends likely will emerge during the next two years, here are some tactics businesses should consider enacting now.

Ready, Set, Post
Former senator and vice presidential candidate John Edwards made his recent 2008 candidacy declaration on his website the day before his scheduled, prepared speech. Launching his campaign online extended the shelf life of the announcement with the major news outlets by one day. Edwards’ online presentation also enhanced his reputation as a relevant candidate among younger voters, while appearing more savvy and creative to voters in general…..

Successful Home Business Starts With Finding A Winning Company

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

For many network marketers this home business is like a religion to them. They like to argue about what company is THE BEST, about what product is THE BEST and about what compensation plan is THE BEST. The truth is that there is no ONE perfect company, there are many. And what appeals to you won’t appeal to everyone. This arguing would all be quite amusing if they weren’t so serious and if the topic didn’t derail so many businesses in the process. Keep in mind that during the average 3.5 year career of a network marketer less than 5% ever earn over $200 per month in net profit. Most don’t even break even.

This is a problem not with network marketing; after all we can parade success stories in front of you all day. We can also point to similar failures in other industries. No, this is ultimately a problem with the marketer. Lack of money, lack of knowledge and lack of skills are all fundamental factors in failure. What is often overlooked though, is the importance of having a good company to promote.

Understanding what it takes to find a winning network marketing program is critical, because that’s where it all begins. Make a poor choice here and it will haunt your entire marketing effort. No matter how good your marketing, if you have the wrong offer for your prospects, or the wrong offer for you, you will fail. I’m sorry to be that blunt but that’s simply a fact. Realize that “network marketing” is not a commodity. Realize that a “system” is not a business in and of itself. There are a lot of scams and pseudo-scams that focus not on what’s actually important in business, namely selling the product and/or service, but on the system. According to the FTC and legal precedence, this is a sure sign of trouble ahead. Just stop by the FTC’s web site (www.ftc.gov) and you’ll see a steady stream of scams the agency shuts down. Now, don’t get me wrong, a system is a fundamental part of a good network marketing business. The question you need to ask is, “Is the system all there is to this business?”

How Do Home Business Affiliate Programs Work

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

I am constantly being asked questions about joining Affiliate Programs. These programs are being hyped as the “next get-rich-quick scheme” on the Internet. That is not necessarily true… but the good news is that it is possible to make some very serious money with Affiliate Programs.

However Affiliate Programs aren’t for everybody, so I’m going to give you the inside information on who should join an Affiliate Program, and what you should be looking for if you do join.

Affiliate Programs are also called Associate Programs, Re-seller Programs, Commission or Pay-Per-Sale, Pay-Per-Click and Click-Through Programs.

Let’s talk about how Affiliate Programs work.

Basically Affiliate Programs reward website owners for referring customers to their business. Website owners are rewarded for sending customers to another website (of which you belong to an Associate Program for that website), and for any business (sales) which is generated from the customer who linked through your site to the other website.

Like any other marketing tool, blogs are most effective when used properly. Here are some suggestions for successful blogging, plus some background for those who aren’t familiar with blogs.

The Backstory on Blogs
The word “blog'’ is derived from the term “web log.'’ In essence, a blog is a web page or site that’s part online journal–hence the term “log'’–and part open forum. Some bloggers post new updates constantly; others write updates weekly, monthly or only occasionally.

In most cases, blog entries are short and might include photos or links. Sometimes blog readers can post their reactions to the blogger’s entries. Other readers can then add their two cents to those comments, thereby continuing the dialogue.

The so-called blogosphere contains blogs on practically every conceivable topic. Some blogs exist on the website of an individual or business, while others are hosted on public blogging sites, like Blogger and Windows Live Spaces.

Build a Better Home Business Plan

Friday, March 9th, 2007

From Entrepreneur.com:

Bypass some of the most common mistakes made by startup entrepreneurs, and you’ll zero in on a better business plan.

Jessica D. Herrin’s first experience presenting a business plan to investors taught her many lessons, including a hard-knocks course in humility. During the dotcom boom, Herrin’s plan for an online wedding gift registry called for selling products directly to consumers and also through retailers. Herrin, a business school student at the time, lacked wedding industry experience, so she didn’t know retailers would never support a startup that competed with them. “When we presented the plan, people looked at us like we were crazy,” Herrin recalls.

But the 34-year-old Burlingame, California, entrepreneur turned out to be crazy like a fox. She revamped the plan to employ a retailer-only distribution system and eventually got funding for her gift business. And before she even began to solicit investors for her latest business, a custom jewelry maker, she spent time with a retailer partner who showed her the industry ropes. As a result, Herrin was able to quickly raise the $350,000 in seed money Luxe Jewels needed to get off the ground in 2004. Today, Luxe has $1.2 million in sales, 10 employees and a CEO with a strong appreciation for the power of avoiding deal-breaking mistakes in a business plan.

Business plan experts, venture capitalists and entrepreneurs say Herrin’s experience is common. Many business plans sport fatal errors that virtually guarantee a hostile reception from lenders or anyone else who views them. Unwary entrepreneurs plant red flags throughout their plans, from the executive summary to the financial statements, says Linda Pinson, a Tustin, California, business planner and author of Anatomy of a Business Plan. But the most common mistake, Pinson says, is a broad lack of internal consistency. An entrepreneur will, for instance, describe marketing costs one way in the section on marketing, then give another figure for marketing costs in the financial statement. “That’s the kiss of death,” Pinson says. “If [the business plan] doesn’t work, how is the home business going to work?”

Nurture Your Internet Home Business

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

From AmericanChronicle.com:

An internet home business needs to be nurtured and nourished in order to make internet income, just like an acorn needs to be fed and watered in order to flourish and grow into a huge oak tree.

Just as an oak tree takes time to grow, the same applies to an internet home business if it is given the attention it needs.

Firstly, ensure that your internet home business website is nestled safely and comfortably in the hands of a respectable and longstanding hosting company where you are allocated plenty of space for the roots of your internet home business to become large and established. You will want to avoid the need to transplant the website to a new hosting company, should the original one become too small, unreliable or simply vanish from the internet altogether.

In order for the roots and foliage of the sapling to grow it requires food and water on a daily basis for its whole life, the same applies to an internet home business if it is to make internet income.

Get Beyond Your Home Business Launch

Monday, February 12th, 2007

From Entrepreneur.com:

11 tips to act on now that’ll help you keep your work at home business going well beyond the startup phase.

If starting a business were easy, everyone would do it. But they don’t. Only those of you who know deep down inside you’re entrepreneurs at heart will ever take these steps–even if you’ve denied that entrepreneurial spirit burning inside you for a long time.

Using that burning desire to grow your business, however, is a far different task from simply lighting it. Most people start with the odds stacked so much against them that it’s difficult for them to fan the fire beyond the first few months or years. Here are a few pieces of advice I can offer to help you keep your new business growing in size and profit:

1. Hire people who are better at the job than you are. It’s a fact that companies are built by people, and the best people build the best and most profitable companies. Put simply, great employees may cost you 20 to 30 percent more in wages, but they can be twice as productive as mediocre employees. Invest in good people.

2. Place high urgency in everything you do. Always do everything you can today. When I started each of my businesses, I’d work constantly until I just had to go eat and sleep. Too many people treat their businesses as nine-to-five jobs. Never put something off until tomorrow if you can do it right now.

3. Get customers coming back. The road to profitability is through repeat business. Too few business owners set themselves up for long-term success. Your business grows when you add regular new customers on top of existing regular customers. Think of it this way: What if every customer you ever got stayed for life? How many regular buyers would you have?

4. Make decisions quickly. New companies don’t have the time or resources to stand still. General H. Norman Schwarzkopf once said to me, “When placed in command, take charge.” He also believes it’s better to make a decision and move than it is to stand still.

5. Deliver more than you promise. If you tell a customer it’ll be three days, deliver in two. If you think it’ll be two hours, say three hours and surprise them. This is the best form of marketing ever.

Great Ways to Market Your Work at Home Business

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Article Excerpt from BusinessKnowHow.com:

Internet Marketing Home Business
“You had high hopes when you started your work at home business. You figured you’d get all the business you need for your fledgling startup by running an ad or two in the newspaper and telling all your friends and former business associates about your new home business. But customers have been few and far between. And most of the people who express interest in your product or service, don’t want to spend the money to buy it.

What can you do? How can you keep your home business dreams alive? What are successful home businesses doing that you aren’t doing?

Here are several home business marketing suggestions to help.

Expand your network. Your friends and family may be supportive of what you’re doing but they may not be the best sources of referrals. Consider who would make a good customer and then look for ways to meet those people. Chamber of commerce meetings, PTA meetings, local civic associations, regional trade shows, professional conferences, and phone calls can all be effective. So, too, can networking online through message boards and mailing lists. Don’t spam the boards or lists with links to your products. Just participate and contribute to the groups that are likely to include prospects for your services and you will get known.

Change to Grow Your Work at Home Business

Monday, January 15th, 2007

“If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always gotten!”

Work at Home Leads BusinessAwesome words of wisdom. Think about that for a minute. Realize that your work at home business will not grow magically and if you have been struggling in building your home based business you are not alone.

Too often, we get stuck on a great idea or strategy that just does not work for us. But rather than change what we are doing, we continue to do what we have always done.

Unfortunately, most of us also expect a greater result. We get stubborn and refuse to change what we do. Then we become frustrated because we are not getting the results we expect and deserve.

So how do you get the results you know you should get and the results you deserve. The answer is simple. But simple is not always easy. We are often afraid of challenge or difficulty in change, so we continue to do what we have always done.

The bad news is unless we change and start doing something different in our work at home marketing, we will never achieve our desired results. Change MUST take place in your attitude and in your marketing plan to help you become the success you want to be.

Begin with a 30 day plan of action and track your progress. Even if you are uncomfortable, that is okay. Changing habits and forming new ones is often difficult. Well, after you track your progress for 30 days, create a 90 day plan of action. Use your statistics to help you plan and forecast your work at home business.

Realize that no one can change you or your habits except you. Building your home based business and becoming successful in all you do is YOUR responsibility. Keep in mind that you must make change and form new habits of success if you want the results you desire. Know that no matter what you do, “If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always gotten!”

Book Review: How to Buy, Sell, and Profit on eBay: Kick-Start Your Home-Based Business in Just Thirty Days

eBay Home Based BusinessThe eBay phenomenon may be the greatest opportunity for home-based entrepreneurs ever. With close to zero start-up costs and a worldwide customer base of 150 million people, the little guy can now compete on a level playing field with huge corporations. Although TV infomercials and eBay itself are teeming with hucksters trying to sell advice, wholesale lists, and auction software to help you jump on the eBay bandwagon, 99 percent of it is junk and unnecessary.

In October 2001 Ginsberg had a modest business selling high-end pool tables and tried selling one on eBay on a dare. For him, the rest is history. He now runs a million-dollar eBay business and ships pool tables all over the country. This quick read is a pretty straightforward primer on the do’s and don’ts of starting your own (serious) eBay business. Since Ginsberg seems to hold back somewhat on the finer points of advanced online business management and product sourcing, you will have to do some of your own homework, but there is plenty here to get you started.

Big Ideas from Small Businesses in 2007

Sunday, December 10th, 2006

(FSB Magazine) — When a new product from Microsoft debuts, it doesn’t arrive quietly. Instead it gets tracked through the R&D pipeline by trade magazines, bloggers and carefully controlled announcements from the marketing department.

Fortune Small BusinessSmall-business innovations don’t work that way. They tiptoe into the market, heralded by minimal PR (if any) and propelled instead by the inventor’s enthusiasm.

What makes that more ironic is that small businesses these days come up with better ideas more consistently than their corporate competitors. “Rates of R&D growth among small firms tend to have been higher than among large R&D-performing firms,” says John Jankowski, director of the R&D Statistics Program at the National Science Foundation.

To find these innovative companies you need a field guide, and that’s were FSB comes in. Exploring everything from ocean-generated electricity to six-foot roses to an ATM for books, the stories on the following pages offer a preview of the companies, products, people, trends and ideas likely to make news in 2007 - all from the world of small business.

8 Opt-In Offers Your Visitors Can’t Refuse - Entrepreneur

These days, consumers know that their personal information is gold, and they won’t give it to you unless you give them a really compelling reason to opt in to your list. And it’s definitely worth your while to give them the incentive because a good opt-in e-mail list will start generating profits for your work at home business immediately–and continue to do so well into the future.

Email Marketing with AutorespondersThere are tons of different incentives you can use to encourage people to give you their personal information, but not every offer will suit every website or business.

Most people think of newsletters right off the bat, for instance. But for some businesses, a free newsletter just won’t work. Suppose, for example, that your site sells washers and dryers. You’re going to be hard pressed to come up with interesting, relevant information about laundry for your free newsletter every month.

Before you start a newsletter, think about how much relevant information you can deliver to your audience and how much time you have to put it together so it can be delivered regularly. If it turns out that a newsletter isn’t a good fit for your business, here are eight other ways to collect your prospects’ e-mail addresses: [Read the 8 Tips from Entrepreneur]

Avoid Failure in Home Business

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Very often in home business you see people fail after they appear to have had success. In some cases they may have even had significant success only to lose a great deal of it. How can this happen to people who have demonstrated a mastery of the business?

Home Business Leaders
Over 2000 years ago the author of the book of Proverbs correctly identified pride as a major cause of failure. The reason pride can be so devastating is because it blinds us to reality. Being blind to reality prevents us from responding to situations in ways that will best benefit us.

I have seen marketers start to succeed in their online business. They master the prospecting process and become proficient in recruiting new distributors. Then one of several things can happen. They may stop learning and improving themselves because they no longer feel they need it. The result is a gradual loss of motivation and ends with the inability to adapt to the ever-changing marketing environment. They may get over confident in their track record. They may even try to double their efforts with the idea that it will bring twice the results. Pride often leads them to find that they have lost focus on the fundamentals that got them there in the first place. This is because pride rejects reality and substitutes it’s own instead.

Then there are those who have achieved what most would call major success – a solid six-figure income and a thorough understanding of the business. Still, occasionally these people fail. The reasons usually lead back to pride. Pride makes you inflexible and gives you the false belief that you are infallible and immune to failure. As a result, pride leads to the wrong actions, the wrong timing and the inability to recognize it.

Fortunately the author of Proverbs also provides us with the solution to this problem. He states that riches and honor come through humility. Humility is simply not thinking so much of yourself that you begin to think that you are always right and everyone else is wrong. This isn’t to say that one should not be confident in their ability or to give up the faith that they can indeed accomplish the task at hand. On the contrary, humility is an approach to life that holds that you can learn from others and that every part of business and life is subject to continual review.

This holiday season, recognize what you have and be thankful for it. Most of all recognize that you have the ability to direct your own destiny. Through your work at home business you have the power to change not just your own life but the lives of hundreds even thousands of others. For this you should always remain thankful.

Google’s New Print Ads

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

With a slew of big-city newspapers on its side, Google sets out to reproduce the success of its online ad programs—offline [Great new way to market your work at home business]

Google (GOOG) is rolling out its most ambitious print advertising initiative yet, an online marketplace that will let advertisers place bids on space in more than 50 major newspapers across the U.S.

The search giant will launch an alpha test of Google Print Ads this week. Since last fall, Google has tried at least three small-scale experiments with placing print ads in newspapers and magazines. Some of those earlier efforts were not well received (see BusinessWeek.com, 12/12/05, “Can Google Go Glossy?”).

All Aboard
Google Print Ads is notable for both the number of newspapers that have signed on, as well as the participants it’s attracting. Among the participating papers are some of the nation’s largest and most renowned: The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, the Chicago Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Denver Post. More than 100 advertisers will take part as well. (The test hasn’t yet started, and Google declined to release the names of virtually all advertisers.) Tom Phillips, director of Google Print Ads, says he expects the program to be expanded to include weekly newspapers “sooner rather than later.” He says weekly magazines eventually will be involved as well.

The move cements Google’s central position within the media universe: a ubiquitous entity with which all major media players simultaneously partner and compete.

Home Business Success - Stay in Control

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

Want to lead a happier, healthier and wealthier life? Start by practicing self-control. By Robert Kiyosaki (Entrepreneur Magazine)

Work at Home Dad
Most of us have heard the phrase “health, wealth and happiness.” But what actually brings health, wealth and happiness? Is it success, and success alone?

My poor dad was a successful man. He had a Ph.D. and was well-respected and accomplished. But he had poor health, very little wealth and was rarely happy. He smoked two packs of cigarettes a day, eventually dying of lung cancer. He made a lot of money as a government official but never invested it. He wasn’t happy with his success. In his mind, he needed to accomplish more.

So, my thought for you this month: Are you becoming healthy, wealthy and happy? Or are you sacrificing these ideals for success?

Most of us know what to do when it comes to our health and our wealth. Health is primarily about diet and exercise, and wealth is about earning and investing. But happiness is a bit more mysterious. We know to think positively, but thinking positively instead of realistically can have tragic consequences. For example, positive thinking won’t prevent you from going bust if you’re foolish with money, and it won’t reduce your percentage of body fat.

In fact, it’s often the pursuit of happiness that causes the most problems with health and wealth. Many people are obese because they eat and drink to feel happy. And others shop to feel happy, even if it means maxing out credit cards.”…….Read More…

Advertise Your Home Business on Craigslist

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Craigslist is a centralized network of online urban communities, featuring free classified advertisements (with jobs, housing, personals, for sale/barter/wanted, services, community, gigs and resumes categories) and forums sorted by various topics. You can also advertise your work at home business opportunity, but only in the Small Biz ad category.

It was founded in 1995 by Craig Newmark for the San Francisco Bay Area. After incorporation in 1999, Craigslist expanded into nine more cities in 2000 (all of them in the U.S.), four each in 2001 and 2002, and 14 in 2003. As of June 2006, Craigslist had established itself in approximately 310 cities all over the world.

As of 2006, Craigslist operates with a staff of 22 people. [1] Its sole source of revenue is paid job ads in select cities ($75 per ad for the San Francisco Bay Area; $25 per ad for New York and Los Angeles), and paid broker apartment listings in New York City ($10 per ad).

It serves over 4 billion page views per month, putting it in 30th place overall among Internet companies world wide, 7th place overall among Internet companies in the United States (per Alexa.com on July 8, 2006), to 10 million unique visitors. With over 10 million new classified ads each month, Craigslist is the leading classifieds service in any medium. The site receives over 500,000 new job listings each month, making it one of the top job boards in the world. [2] The classified advertisements range from traditional buy/sell ads and community announcements, to personal ads and even “erotic services”.

Craigslist received a ton of traffic, so if you don’t spam your opportunity, it can be a very helpful free home business marketing tool.

Why Most Fail with a Network Marketing Business

Monday, October 30th, 2006

“It is one thing to eliminate ways in which you have blocked yourself, but another to develop the skills to complete things you begin.” - Kenneth Christian

In the world of a network marketing home business we are often faced with the challenge of doing the things others are unwilling to do. In fact, if you desire to become a great leader of leaders in network marketing you must do the things others are unwilling to do.

Many of these things from prospecting to recruiting to leading a team to duplicate your efforts can be a challenge in and of itself. Most people fail miserably at these tasks. They fail not because they can’t complete the task but they fail because they have underdeveloped skills needed to complete the task.

Too often these same people will continue to search for the magical tool or secret formula to help them dramatically take a failing effort to multi-millions in an overnight adventure. Only they find that there really is no magical tool or secret formula. But they continue to search.

It takes 12 years of school plus 4 years of college to get educated to start a $30k to $50k a year job in the traditional workplace. Yet, in network marketing, people will join a business and expect to be earning $10k a month within the first few months. If they don’t earn it, they are off to the next best business opportunity.

Why does this happen? In network marketing, the cost of entry is minimal and most people have a misguided belief that it also requires a low skill level. No wonder 95%+ of those who enter into the network marketing industry fail so miserably.

If you truly want to succeed in your network marketing home business, you must treat it not only as a business but as one would in any profession. This means you start with getting your education. This education begins at Leaders Club. Tap into the training. get coaching. Most importantly, make a commitment to yourself
and the industry to invest in mastering the skills necessary in becoming the success you have always dreamed about becoming.

TIP - Do NOT just eliminate the things standing in your way. You MUST also develop and master the skills necessary to face the challenges and complete the task at hand.
