One of the most plentiful work at home jobs around is freelance typing jobs. Almost every business needs it done and most people can type. More people aren’t cashing in on freelance typing because it sounds too good to be true. But, if you know where to look, there really is enough work out there to keep a freelancer busy and able to make good money.

What you need to know before taking the plunge into freelance work at home typing is that there are a lot of people in the internet world who want to take advantage of your eagerness to work from home. Be very careful before you give money to agencies or individuals who claim they’ll supply you with home typing jobs for a small fee! While there are perfectly legitimate freelancing agencies that will let you access their jobs listings for a membership fee, there are also groups or people who will take your fee and merely give you a data sheet full of websites where you can advertise your services. Watch out, and be sure you know who you are giving your money to, and what you are getting in return. Freelance typing is a real job, you just need to look in the right places!

Home parties now account for roughly 29 percent of the nearly $30 billion in U.S. direct sales, and 13.6 million Americans bought or sold goods from home in 2004. Direct sellers are hawking everything from organic gardening supplies to wine. Some are even hosting virtual parties online. And the numbers are growing, according to Amy Robinson of the Direct Selling Association in Washington, DC. “The majority of companies coming into [the] DSA are party plan companies,” she says. “In a lot of cases, they are smaller, newer companies started by entrepreneurs from their basements.”

Andrew Shure (below) is one of them. Nationwide, he has 1,300 consultants selling Shure Pets pet products, and he predicts he’ll have 2,800 by the end of 2007. “The only requirement at Shure Pets is a passion for pets,” says Shure, 43, who launched the Chicago-based business in 2003 and projects sales of $1 million for 2006. Another example is Newburyport, Massachusetts-based Anna William, which lets customers design their own handbags. Kristen Lee, 29, launched the million-dollar company in 2003 with Keek Bielby, 57; Rani Chase, 36; and Erin Hornyak, 33–and already has 125 consultants nationwide.

Be sure to thoroughly research any company you’re considering, and make sure you love the products. As Robinson says, “It’s no fun to sell something you’re not interested in.”

Very often in home business you see people fail after they appear to have had success. In some cases they may have even had significant success only to lose a great deal of it. How can this happen to people who have demonstrated a mastery of the business?

Over 2000 years ago the author of the book of Proverbs correctly identified pride as a major cause of failure. The reason pride can be so devastating is because it blinds us to reality. Being blind to reality prevents us from responding to situations in ways that will best benefit us.

I have seen marketers start to succeed in their online business. They master the prospecting process and become proficient in recruiting new distributors. Then one of several things can happen. They may stop learning and improving themselves because they no longer feel they need it. The result is a gradual loss of motivation and ends with the inability to adapt to the ever-changing marketing environment. They may get over confident in their track record. They may even try to double their efforts with the idea that it will bring twice the results. Pride often leads them to find that they have lost focus on the fundamentals that got them there in the first place. This is because pride rejects reality and substitutes it’s own instead.

Then there are those who have achieved what most would call major success – a solid six-figure income and a thorough understanding of the business. Still, occasionally these people fail. The reasons usually lead back to pride. Pride makes you inflexible and gives you the false belief that you are infallible and immune to failure. As a result, pride leads to the wrong actions, the wrong timing and the inability to recognize it.

Fortunately the author of Proverbs also provides us with the solution to this problem. He states that riches and honor come through humility. Humility is simply not thinking so much of yourself that you begin to think that you are always right and everyone else is wrong. This isn’t to say that one should not be confident in their ability or to give up the faith that they can indeed accomplish the task at hand. On the contrary, humility is an approach to life that holds that you can learn from others and that every part of business and life is subject to continual review.

This holiday season, recognize what you have and be thankful for it. Most of all recognize that you have the ability to direct your own destiny. Through your work at home business you have the power to change not just your own life but the lives of hundreds even thousands of others. For this you should always remain thankful.

The taxmen have stepped up their audits on small businesses, and that has many entrepreneurs crying foul

The tax gap in the U.S., which the IRS defines as the missing amount from taxpayers who don’t file their tax returns and pay the correct tax on time, currently stands at around $345 billion. Mark Everson, the IRS commissioner, has been working to reduce the gap since he took office in March, 2003.

“To make sure that there’s an impression of fairness…,” Everson says he first focused on high-income individuals and larger corporations, but now the IRS is stepping up its audits of small businesses.

In fact, the IRS enforcement increase has already begun in earnest. In 2005, audits of the roughly 5.7 million small businesses the IRS recognizes to be organized as corporations increased significantly, with 17,867 audits, up from 7,294 a year earlier.

Unfair Targeting?
Audits of corporations with assets over $10 million also increased in 2005, but by a much smaller percentage: up 14% from the previous year, to 10,878. Everson says he expects 2006 to reach an even greater rate of small-business enforcement.

Both the IRS and business taxpayers agree that some fraud exists for small businesses and individuals reporting their taxable income. But in response to the IRS crackdown, small-business owners and advocacy groups are crying foul, claiming smaller firms are being targeted with unfair audits that could penalize them for small or unintentional transgressions…..”
